A connected solution, which respects the seabed, for anchoring giant yachts in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez (French Riviera).

At the request of Perfect Mooring, Nautiscaphe has just designed and installed a new anchorage system for mega yachts in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, the famous coastal town on the French Riviera, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of southeastern France. A series of innovations, mainly making the mooring of boats secure using an Internet connection, makes it possible to reconcile two very high expectations. These are:

  • continuing to welcome mega yachts, which are significant players for local economics and tourism, on the French Mediterranean coastline.
  • protecting the seabed as the anchors and mooring chains of boats deteriorate pulling up the algae that is essential to a living ecosystem.

Nautiscaphe specialises in environmental, secure anchorage systems. This company offers innovative anchorage and harbour supply solutions that respect the seabed. It designs and carries out projects for these customers, shipping agents and local authorities from A to Z, from obtaining the temporary occupation authorisation to the complete study of site conditions, feasibility studies and full-scale tests. This is what has made this innovation possible. It is now sufficiently mature for technological duplication.

Continuing to welcome yachts, important players for the local economy

The Mega Yacht Mooring system, which looks like an enormous 3-metre buoy, enables boats that can reach 70 metres in length to be moored without a negative impact on the environment. Their berths are completely secure due to an Internet connection which enables the shipping agent to warn the crews of weather risks. When moored to this system, just as when moored to a berth in port, a yacht can happily release some of its crew during the port call to enjoy the surrounding tourist cities fully.

Protecting the seabed against damage from yacht anchors and mooring chains

The local economy needs these mega yachts but ecoresponsible tourism is also important. Indeed, more than four thousand giant yachts criss-cross the Mediterranean off the French coast. Mooring them causes more and more damage to the seabed, most particularly in sensitive, protected sites. A raised anchor may destroy up to 100 m2 of Posidonia, an aquatic plant endemic in the Mediterranean. The Nautiscaphe Mega Yacht Mooring system has a patented elliptical anchor which is 40 times lighter than the concrete blocks usually used.

If the economic players are expecting practical answers to promote ecoresponsible tourism there is no doubt that the Mega Yacht Mooring system from Nautiscaphe is one of the best examples on the Mediterranean shores.

An instrumented buoy with its information distributed on the Cloud!

A key element in port call security, the Nautiscaphe solution for informing crews in real-time constantly records the wind speed, wave height and the tension on the mooring line. The mooring buoys are fitted with sensors. Onboard various instruments (driven shackles, swell gauge and anemometer) send information on the Cloud.

They are therefore immediately available by connection or even better, by setting an alert threshold for each piece of information. The user is warned in real-time of the data measured as soon as the indicated safety thresholds are reached.

Options also make it possible to collect data history, to detect the water temperature and measure its quality.
